YES, Vinegar!

Here are just some uses for white vinegar:


  1. Get rid of build up in your coffeemaker by running a pot of water mixed with 1/4 cup vinegar.
  2. Prevent mildew build up in your refrigerator's seals by wiping with a rag dipped in vinegar.  Do not rinse.
  3. Clean greasy frying pans by simmering 1/4 inch water and 1/2 cup vinegar for 10 minutes.
  4. Mix equal parts of vinegar, salt, and baking soda and pour down the drain.  Let it sit 1 hour, then run very hot tap water down the drain.  This will open up the clog.
  5. Mineral deposits on your faucets?  Squirt with undiluted vinegar.  Let sit 15 minutes.  Scrub away with an old toothbrush.
  6. Wipe your kitchen counter tops with undiluted vinegar every day to keep them shining and kitchen smelling fresh.
  7. Mix Borax with enough vinegar to make a paste to remove mildew on shower curtains.
  8. Loosen soap scum on shower doors by spraying with vinegar.
  9. For general clean up on carpets or rugs, mix equal parts vinegar and water.  Lightly sponge solution onto carpet, rinse, and blot dry.
  10. Remove crayon stains from carpet or any other fabric by scrubbing area with a toothbrush dipped in vinegar.
  11. Add a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water and mop hardwood floors lightly.  Do not saturate.  No need to rinse!
  12. This one is good for crafting.....before painting anything metal, wipe surface with a mixture of 1 part vinegar to 5 parts water.  
  13. Soften hardened paintbrushes by soaking them in warm vinegar for an hour.  Wash after soaking with soap and water, and let air dry.
  14. Remove rust from nuts, bolts, rusty tools, or nails by covering with vinegar and letting them sit overnight.
  15. *This is my favorite* Add 1/2 cup vinegar to the last rinse cycle of your wash to soften clothes and remove fabric softener buildup!
  16. Mix equal parts of vinegar and hand cream to help chapped, dry hands.
  17. Oily skin can be controlled with a mixture of half apple cider vinegar, half cool water.  It works as an astringent.
  18. Vinegar is a great rinse for you hair after shampooing.
  19. Homemade cough syrup: 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar.  Pour into a jar and seal tight.  Shake before use.  1 TB every 4 hours.
  20. For sinus congestion, add 1/4 cup vinegar to a vaporizer and breathe in deeply.
  21. Mix vinegar and cornstarch to make a paste to apply to bee stings or bug bites.  Let dry.
  22. Vinegar has a cooking effect of sunburns.  Simply spray affected area with diluted vinegar.
  23. To clean windows streak free, spray on vinegar and wipe clean with newspaper!
  24. For weeds: Boil 1 QT water, add 2 TB salt, 5 TB vinegar.  While still hot, pour onto weeds.
  25. To keep ants at bay, wipe the area of entry with vinegar.
  26. To get rid of that damp, musty smell in your cooler, rinse with vinegar, then wash with soap and water.  Rinse.
  27. For cats: Use vinegar to clean out a kitty litter pan.  
  28. To remove odors from your house, spray vinegar into the air just as you would Febreeze, or Lysol.  
  29. Eggs: Add 1 TB vinegar to boiling water to keep a cracked egg from running out.
  30. Make chili vinegar: Put 3 oz. chopped chilies into 1 QT vinegar and store for 2 weeks in a tightly sealed bottle.  Strain the liquid after 2 weeks.  
  31. Cheese: keep cheese from molding or becoming too hard by storing in a cloth saturated with vinegar inside an airtight container.
  32. Pie crusts: add a tsp to your favorite pie crust recipe.
  33. Meringue: make a fluffy meringue by adding 1/2 tsp vinegar for every 3 egg whites.
  34. Use vinegar instead of lime or lemon juice in recipes.
  35. Vegetables: freshen wilted veggies by soaking them in 2 cups water and 1 TB vinegar.
